Market Closures for Christmas Holiday

As the holiday season approaches, investors should note the modified trading schedule for U.S. financial markets. Both Christmas Eve and Christmas Day will see market closures, though with different operational statuses.

Trading Schedule Details

On Christmas Eve (December 24), U.S. stock markets will operate on a shortened trading schedule. The markets will close early at 1:00 p.m. Eastern Time. This early closure applies to major exchanges including the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) and Nasdaq.

Christmas Day (December 25) is a full market holiday. All U.S. stock markets will be completely closed for trading. This closure includes:

  • New York Stock Exchange (NYSE)
  • Nasdaq
  • Bond markets
  • Options markets

Planning Your Trading Activities

Investors should adjust their trading strategies accordingly, considering the reduced liquidity and trading volume typically seen during holiday-shortened sessions. International markets may have different schedules, so traders with global portfolios should verify overseas market hours.

Regular trading hours will resume on December 26, following the Christmas holiday closure.
